Ocean Two is not destroying Barbados’s beaches or jobs

February 9, 2009

You would feel very embarrassed if you were to form an opinion on a subject, make public statements and even go so far as to commit a crime to voice your anger, only to learn that there is public, factual information that totally disproves your opinion and statements.

It gets worse, your opinion and statements have now caused many other people to jump on your band wagon to form the same totally misinformed, incorrect opinion. To boot, the subject at hand is a sensitive issue: Beach front land development in Barbados.

Mr. Graffiti Artist you claimed the following:

  • Ocean Two is destroying Barbados’s beaches one condo at a time.
  • Ocean Two is destroying Barbados jobs by closing a hotel to build condos.

The facts about Ocean Two:

  • Ocean Two is actually a condo-hotel, so while condos are being sold they are being put back in a rental pool and Ocean Two will be run as a hotel.
  • Ocean Two is not destroying jobs but creating an additional 75+ jobs compared to the former hotel, Rainbow Beach. Not to mention the hundreds of workers being employed by the contractor and sub-contractors during construction.
  • Ocean Two is not destroying Barbados’s beaches. The beach at Ocean Two disappeared many years ago, the developers have spent $1.7 MM BBD to re-create the beach at Ocean Two as well as enhance the beach directly to the west.

So please Mr. Graffiti artist, the next time you have the urge to spray paint a sign to voice your opinion please take the time to educate yourself before making a fool out of yourself.
