It appears that controversy could hit the exclusive platinum coast of Barbados once again with there being major concern along the shoreline.
The very popular Mullins beach is once again playing host to a blocked watercourse that sits on the border between Mullins and Gibbes.
According to another online blogger the situation is not only a disaster waiting to happen were we to get heavy rains. During 2008, that beach and its environmental issues made headlines in the local media.
The problem at the west coast beach comes in the wake of the that coast becoming one of the most exclusive places in the Caribbean with multi-million dollar properties lining the shoreline. Moreover this environmental concern comes as ecologists and coastal engineers have voiced their opinions on the need to honour Barbados’ shoreline in the midst of such major development occuring along the South and West Coast.
One thing has been made clear under the circumstances and that is that authorities whether it be the Barbados Coastal Zone Management Unit, the Ministry of Environment or all other stakeholders need to develop a long-term solution for the area, that makes checks to ensure that the area is kept free, clean and clear of debris and litter.
